Rachel Townend
Rachel Townend is Chief of Staff and a General Partner at Illuminate Financial, where she has worked alongside the partnership since inception, overseeing the firm’s strategic objectives across people, processes and operations.
With over 17 years’ experience in financial services, Rachel has worked at the centre of investment firms across venture capital and private markets. Her scalable operating experience has been shaped at Illuminate, where she has helped build and grow the firm into an established platform. Her background combines operator rigour with a founder’s mindset, rooted in long-term partnership, trust and hands-on execution.
Prior to Illuminate, Rachel spent five years at Satya Capital, a boutique private equity firm focused exclusively on Africa-based investments. Before that, she worked at Marshall Wace, supporting a manager-led investment fund and partnering closely with Investor Relations. Earlier in her career, she held roles at Invesco Perpetual, Gold Key Media and worked with the Cadbury family. Rachel holds a BA in Geography and Business from the University of Nottingham and is a certified Chief of Staff through Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
Rachel is motivated by people and connection, with a particular interest in business psychology and how strong cultures enable long-term performance.
Outside of work, you’ll usually find Rachel spending time with family and friends, often outdoors - or swimming in the Cornish sea, even in mid-winter.
